Take Care of Your Home’s Sewer System
House sewer systems are responsible for transporting pollutants from your house’s interior to your septic tank. The system is usually made up of pipes that run under your floors and walls, to several drains and eventually out to the drain field. Your house sewer will regularly be exposed to normal wear and tear and corrosion, and they can also be prone to blockages. It’s important to know when to call a technician to unclog your drains, or when to call a plumber.
Here are some of the common problems that you can expect from your house sewer system:
Low Water Pressure
If you’re having low water pressure, your house sewer is most likely clogged. Your water main will deliver water to the house sewer until any blockage along the way will cause the system to back up and reduce the water pressure. If you’ve ever had low water pressure, then your house sewer may have a few cracks or leaks. To test your water pressure, turn on your kitchen faucet and watch the dial on your water heater. When the dial shows low pressure, then call a technician.
Clogged Pipes
If you’re having problems with clogged pipes, then you can call on a local plumbing contractor to unclog your drains. When the pipes in your home’s sewer system become blocked, then there’s too much water pressure and the sewer won’t flush properly. There are two causes of a clogged pipe, and the first is a buildup of grease and dirt. If the pipe was installed correctly, then the solution to this is to have a plumber clean out the pipe with a snake. If this doesn’t work, then call a professional contractor to help you out.
Frozen Pipes
If you’re having problems with frozen pipes, then you can call on a plumber to come and repair the problem. If your water main is frozen, then the water pressure will be too high, and the pressure will build up and will force the water to back up into your house sewer and cause the pipes to freeze.
